Stop paying a bank all those checking account fees!Monthly service charges, debit card charges, ATM withdrawal fees when you use a machine more convenient to you, and even excessive overdraft fees due to the way banks pay bigger items first - it all adds up! You know they don't really care about you or your account. You're just another number. What they do care about is maximizing the profits that they then distribute to stockholders. It's probably hard to reach someone to get help with a problem, and it may take you several tries to get problems resolved. Isn't it time you made the switch to a better checking account and a better financial institution? We want your checking relationship and we'll work to make sure that you are always valued and that you in turn receive real value! It's easy to make the switch.
Here's how! | |
|

2) Change direct deposit or payroll deduction
|
Check with your employer to see how to change the financial institution to which direct deposit of your paycheck is made. They may have a form for you to complete. Or use our sample form available here. They may require a
cancelled check or some other form, too. It may take more than one
payroll cycle in order for the change to be completed and your first
payroll deposit to be made to your Bourns EFCU checking account.
| 3) Change pre-authorized withdrawals | |
| You may have authorized payments to be automatically withdrawn from your bank checking account. These are the types of payments that are typically pre-authorized: | |
|
Mortgage Loan Payments Gas/Electric/Water/Phone Bills Internet Service Provider Bills Car Loan Payments |
Health Club Dues Life Insurance Premiums Cable/Satellite Contract Payments Other Insurance Provider Premiums |
|
Contact each business that completes automatic withdrawals and request that these and ask them to change the account which they withdraw from. Use our sample form available here. Businesses may require more than one
payment cycle to make the change.
| 4) Convert any online bill payments | |
|
Online Bill Payment is free for Bourns EFCU
checking account holders. In order to activate your service, enroll in
Home Financial Services here. Then sign up for Online Bill Payment. It may take a few days to activate your bill pay service and ensure that connectivity to your account has been initiated. But you don't have to wait to set up your payees. Contact Bourns EFCU for a pamphlet showing you
how to use online bill payment.
| 5) Verify changes are working & close your other bank checking account | |
|
Make sure that you have enough in your old bank
account to cover outstanding items, but start using your Bourns EFCU
account to write checks or authorize Visa debits on. Then when all of your payments have been successfully transferred, send the form here to your old bank to request account closure. Destroy checks and debit cards associated with that account. Your old bank
may require a some other form, too, and they might charge you to close
the account. Just their way of saying "Thanks for your business!"
